Fourth Empire: The fifth pillar of democracy
I remember
the final match of cricket world-cup 2003 when Sachin got out on the fifth ball
of the first over. It was a clever delivery by McGrath and it broke lots of Indian hearts. It shattered millions hopes. Many people
recovered from that deep sorrow as the life came back to normal but many are still hanged on that one ball. Since 2003. Anyway,
Three type of reactions came:
- I knew it: "I am telling you, Sachin won't be able to play today." For some people, this was the part of their defense mechanics to mentally cope up with possible undesirable outcome. It was preparation in advance for the heartbreak. For some, it was a future planning by a smart gamble. "If I tell people today that Sachin will not be able to play, and if he gets out early, which is relatively low but still a finite possibility, I will sound like an expert and people will pay more attention to my forecast next time. And if he doesn’t get out, no one will care what I said."
- Why didn’t he do this?: Second type usually had
very little knowledge about the Cricket but very serious premature opinion
ejaculation syndrome. They immediately came up with a different cricket
solution as the ball went up in the air. Something like; he should have a better angle of bat, a little
more stretch in back, slightly elevated shoulder position etc., even
before the umpire could lift his finger.
- I don’t know but why not!: Third kind waited for the opinions of the group they were sitting in. If the groups were of first and second types, they shook their head in agreement and add their own serious opinion about their take on eye movement of Sachin in that moment of time. " I think he was looking 10 degrees right when he should have been looking 10 degrees left. Why not!!" And if the they were sitting among Sachin Fan Club, they agreed to the idea that Sachin was not feeling well that day and he purposely got out so that he didn’t waste anymore balls. It was a Masterstroke.
Then there is one fourth kind also. It usually takes some time, weights all the options, understands the margin, digs up the history for the reference, then concludes. But by the time this group reached to a conclusion, we got new trends. No one gave a damn about that anymore.
I don’t think I need to tell you what the first three types got to do with fourth empire. We see fourth empires filled with opinions before the match. We see them during the breaks. We see them after the match. They changes their opinion as the wind changes. The tone of their certain prediction changes to suggestions, advices and later they tell what could have been done.
And there
is fifth kind too "I don’t know and I don’t
care".
The world is filled with political fourth emipres and none waits for fourth kind.
